The rare torrential rain in Beijing caused great losses in the western mountainous areas.
From 20: 00 on July 29 to 7: 00 on August 2, Beijing suffered a torrential rain that was rare in history. On August 9, the Information Office of Beijing Municipal People’s Government held a press conference on flood control and disaster relief in Beijing.
Xia Linmao, member of the Standing Committee of Beijing Municipal Committee and executive deputy mayor of the municipal government, said that the torrential rain caused serious disasters and the western mountainous areas suffered great losses.
According to preliminary statistics, the city received a total of 369 geological disasters, which is 10.5 times the average number for many years. The torrential rain has seriously damaged the infrastructure in mountainous areas: in terms of water conservancy projects, more than 110 rivers have exceeded the standard flood, and more than 280 kilometers of river embankments have been damaged; Four medium-sized reservoirs, 13 small reservoirs and 16 sluices were damaged to varying degrees. In terms of water facilities, 20 urban and rural water supply plants, 264 rural water supply stations, 18 urban sewage treatment plants and 363 rural sewage treatment facilities stopped or were affected. More than 1,980 kilometers of water supply pipelines and 2,140 kilometers of drainage pipelines were damaged, and the water supply in 507 villages in the city was affected. In terms of power facilities, 70 10 kV power supply lines, 1,812 stations and more than 9,600 distribution equipment were damaged, resulting in power outages in 273 villages and 16 communities. In terms of communication facilities, 3,188 base stations, 1,367 iron towers and 3,146 kilometers of pole roads were damaged, resulting in the interruption of communication in 342 villages. In terms of transportation facilities, 93 roads above the county level were damaged, 840 rural roads were damaged, and traffic in 256 villages was interrupted.
